2017 Meeting Dates –

February 2: Meet at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church – 830 Poplar St, Macon, GA 31201 Shooting in low light inside and outside of church – Meet from 6:30-8:00

March 2: iphone photography – Chuck Kulpa-instructor –Fellowship Hall

April 6: Jennifer Collins from Collins Photography and Design will do a program called “Beyond the Ordinary for Portrait Photography” using available light. This will upstairs on the Fellowship Hall

May 4: ​What to blow smoke? Shoot a fork? Concur a yard stick? Then come to the Middle Georgia Camera Club meeting, May 4th at 7:00 at the Northminster Presbyterian Church, Fellowship Hall at 565 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA. Bring your tripod, camera and smile. All are welcome. We will be working on shooting a smoke stream, working on macro photography with a macro lens or long lens and depth of field.  Three areas will be set-up in Fellowship Hall.  Come an shoot or just come to help out at the various stations.

June 1:  Jerry Black will be our presenter.

Jerry Black is an avid amateur photographer who has photographed for over 35 years and has practiced the basics of photography. However, in the past four or so years he has become known locally as an outstanding wildlife and nature photographer. He has won numerous competitions. For the last two years Jerry has taken first place in the GNPA bird category competition and for three years running has had images juried into the prestigious Booth Museum Photography Annual Exhibition.

In the past two years Jerry’s images have received more national recognition being chosen as one of Audubon’s Top 100 images for 2015 and 2016. About four years ago Jerry attended his first photography workshop and became inspired to really up his capabilities. This precipitated his recent successes.

Jerry has presented his presentation “Passion, Perseverance, Payoffs” to a variety of clubs as well as numerous talks on using Topaz Plug-Ins. Jerry is a member of several area camera clubs and has been a featured speaker and image competition judge. When not out photographing somewhere Jerry is the Founder and President of Legacy Planning Group, Inc. where he and his staff provide financial and life planning for their clients.

Dear Members  We are very fortunate to have John Mariana as our guest speaker at our August 3rd MGCC meeting.  John will speak to us about how to properly size photos for printing, using different kinds of print paper and much more needed information to help us make our photos finish the story we are trying to tell.
Please plan on attending and spread the word.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting and if anyone would like to bring snacks, that would be kindly appreciated.
Here is a brief bio on John Mariana:  John is also one of my instructor.  I have taken several of his workshops.
John Mariana is considered an excellent, experienced instructor and speaker who specialize in teaching beginners through the experienced level student on how to improve their visions and how to really see the images they want to capture.

In 1990 John, started photography workshops and since then has conducted numerous in-the-field workshops in Yosemite National Park, Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico, Monument Valley, the Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, Illinois State Parks,  Bodie Ghost Town, Monolake, northern California and the Sierra mountains, just to name a few.

In 1980 John started using photography in connection to his art background to create color images. By 1984 black and white prints became his specialty. Today, John uses photography to create fine art black and white and color prints expressing his thoughts and artistic vision.  John’s current works include color prints, black and white prints, warm brown sepia toned prints and hand tinted prints.

John was President of the Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association in 1990. This organization consisted of 40 clubs in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. He became the Chairman of the Chicago Area Photographic School from 1986 to 1990. He also Co-founded the not-for-profit American Photographic Academy dedicated to Education in the Art of Photography.

September 7: David Foster will be our guest speaker.  His website is  https://www.davidfosterimages.net/index  Please take a look at his breath taking photography.

He will speak to our club and guests on Macro Photography. After 30 years of photography as a personal pastime, he discovered his artistic passion and a desire to share his images.  He began selling and exhibiting his work in 2006, and since then his images have been part of more than 70 regional, national and international exhibitions, including solo, juried and group show. Please don’t miss this great opportunity!

October 5: Meet at the Georgia National Fair Grounds on Thursday, October 5 for the sneak peek.  Admission is $6 but hopefully the club will pick up the fee for it’s members who come.  Time and more information later.

Also, please plan on submitting photos for the Middle Georgia Camera Club photo contest.  Rules are on our web page at http://www.mgcc.photos/about-us/  All photos must be prints and turned the week of October 23-27 to the church along with your entry fee.

November 2: The November 2nd meeting will include night painting and sparkler shooting.

Contest photos will be judged by two independent judges and the MGCC membership will select the winner of the Member’s Choice Award at this meeting.

December 7:   Annual Awards Program and Christmas Party.

We meet at 6pm and dinner is served at 6:30pm.  Bring a covered dish or dessert to share.  The club will provide the meat, drinks and paper goods.  The Photography Contests winners will be announced.  Following the program, a gift exchange will be held.  If you wish to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a wrapped gift (limit $10).  Family and friends are invited to attend.
